Cruzando Caminos theater group was formed in 2016-- and officially named in 2019—for the purpose of presenting theater in Spanish to the diverse Hispanic communities of New Jersey, and beyond. Director and founder Linda Gould Levine holds a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Harvard University and is Professor Emerita of Spanish at Montclair State University, NJ. Cast members are from Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, and Peru and include Dina Barrionuevo, Feli Blasco, Germán Cardona, Beatriz Delgado-Ochoa, Susana Fernández-Poyatos, Óscar García, Aurora Hermo, Jenny Hernández, María Kapadia, Yeri López, Magaly Novoa, Liliana Olivares, Elizabeth Pérez-Diner, and Luis Guillermo Zea. Our cast is passionate about theater and our mission. It has been our pleasure to present plays since 2017.
We have presented four plays to date: two live performances (an adaptation of García Lorca’s La casa de Bernarda Alba, and Josefina López’s Las mujeres de verdad tienen curvas) and two by zoom (Nilo Cruz’s Ana en el trópíco) and García Lorca’s Yerma). La casa de Bernarda Alba was presented at Montclair State University as well as high schools in New Jersey during 2017-2018, and by Youtube at Bergen Community College during 2020. Las mujeres de verdad tienen curvas was presented at the Maria Ciccone Theater at Bergen Community College with the presence of the author Josefina López (October 18, 2019), as well as at Luna Stage in West Orange, and Montclair State University in 2019-2020. The West Orange Public Library sponsored during 2020 -2021 zoom productions of Ana en el trópico and Yerma.
